I’m native to Houston, Texas where my husband and I are raising our two young children. If I’m not chasing the toddler or holding the baby, you can find me roaming the aisles of Target and Trader Joe’s or laughing with girl friends over a glass of wine… or two… or three.

Meet Laura,

Baby ASL Teacher & Expert

I got a job in my hometown (Houston, Texas) teaching deaf elementary students. While I taught a wide range of grade levels (PPCD 3 year olds - fourth grade), I only had 2 grade levels at one time. My first group of 3 year olds from my first year of teaching stayed with me each year until I resigned when they were in third and fourth grade. Those students were my everything, and always have a special place in my heart.

I resigned to become a mother, and quickly joined a moms group for support, friendship, and a social life. One conversation lead into another, and before I knew it, I had almost 20 moms signed up to learn baby sign language from me for a 4 week course!

My passion for the Deaf culture and ASL, now combined with my new identity as a mother could not have happened at a more perfect time. I have since taken my skills to the ‘gram and TikTok … meeting so many wonderful moms along the way.

I hope that my sign language knowledge, resources, and products bring value to your home. My mission is to be a friend in motherhood, resource, and sign language guru to help your little one communicate his/her needs & wants as early as possible.

So glad you are here!

A little girl who had a passion…

Do you ever just “know” you’re meant to do something from an early age? That was me! My elementary school had the Deaf Education program for the district and I instantly became best friends with many of the Deaf students, despite the language barrier. I picked up sign language as fast as I could - playing with them during recess, watching their teacher sign in our classroom (clearly still “paying attention” to my own teacher too, right?!), going on special field trips, and joining the Sign Choir in 3rd grade.

My mom remembers when the Teacher of the Deaf was absent, and there was no sub. So the grade level teachers had me step in to interpret, & teach the group… yet I was a student in the class as well. WHAAAAT?!

I went to college for my undergraduate degree at the University of Texas (hook ‘em horns!), majoring in Deaf Education. I formally studied American Sign Language (ASL), learned from Deaf professors, and spent time shadowing teachers at Texas School for the Deaf that was just a few miles away. After my bachelor’s degree, I attended Texas Woman’s University where I got my master’s degree in Education of the Deaf.
